Biography
Dr Griffiths undertook her Ph.D. at the University of Aberdeen, exploring the effects of post-event information on eyewitness recall, confidence and decision-making. She then worked as a researcher and intelligence analyst with Grampian Police (now Police Scotland). Dr Griffiths subsequently completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (University of Glasgow), including specialist placements in neuropsychology. She worked as a Clinical Psychologist for NHS Grampian, providing assessment and therapy for children. She joined the University of Aberdeen as a lecturer in 2025.
Dr Griffiths is involved in applied research within the context of the criminal justice system, which includes consultation with professionals in this field (e.g. police, forensic scientists) to support practice. Dr Griffiths is interested in rapport building and wellbeing during investigative interviews from the perspective of both the police and witnesses. She is also interested in the use and comprehension of evidence presented in court. Drawing specifically upon her clinical background, she is interested in the practical implementation of strategies to help maintain positive wellbeing (e.g. in children, education, and the workplace).
Dr Griffiths is an academic member on the Evidence and Investigation Network Steering Group for The Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR). She is a member of ImpleMéndez COST Action working groups, for the implementation of the ‘Mendez Principles’ of effective interviewing for investigations. Dr Griffiths is an Associate Fellow and Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society.
