The Applied Psychology and Human Factors group conducts research in collaboration with industrial and organisational partners. This can be via a PhD studentship (typically funded by the organisation or via the SGSSS collaborative PhD scheme), via a defined short-term research project, through a larger scale funding application (such as to the ESRC), or through consultancy.

Examples of current and past collaborations include:

  • Collaborative PhD project (funded via the SGSSS collaborative PhD studentship scheme) with Bristow Helicopters to explore non-technical skills in search rescue and offshore transport helicopter teams (one of the key outputs was the development of HeliNOTS).
  • Short-term research project in collaboration with Forestry Land Scotland to understand the key non-technical skills necessary for the safety of chainsaw operations (read more via the open access paper HERE).
  • Collaborative PhD project (funded by the Office for Nuclear Regulation) to explore operational decision-making in the nuclear context.
  • Short-term research project to explore workplace incivility in the veterinary context (read more via the published paper HERE).
  • Consultancy project to explore health and wellbeing in offshore workers for Sodexo.

Additional collaborations have included the following partners: CHC Helicopters, VetLed, NHV Helicopters, the Energy Institute.
