Complutense University of Madrid
The Complutense University of Madrid was founded by Cardinal Cisneros as a result of the “Inter cetera” Papal Bull granted by Pope Alexander VI on 13 April 1499. Originally seated in Alcalá de Henares, it moved to Madrid in 1822. The UCM ranks between 101 and 125 worldwide for Law in the British magazine Times Higher Education 2019 (THE) ranking, one of the most prestigious in the world in the evaluation of university quality and reputation, where the quality of teaching and research are confirmed as its main strengths, standing above 80%.
Professor Carmen Otero
Dr. Carmen Otero García-Castrillón is Professor of Private International Law in the Complutense University (Madrid-Spain). She holds a PhD from Complutense University and an LLM from the University of Amsterdam. Her interests are in conflict of laws and jurisdiction in family and patrimonial matters as well as in international trade law, international business law and investment and commercial arbitration. In these fields, she has published books in Spanish and a number of articles in Spanish and in English.
Assistant Professor Clara Isabel Cordero Álvarez
Dr. Clara Isabel Cordero is Vice-dean for quality and Innovation in the Complutense School of Law and Senior Lecturer of Private International Law in the Complutense University (Madrid-Spain). She holds a PhD from Complutense University in the field of International Litigation: violations of privacy and rights relating to personality. She has experience in international litigation, not only in family cases but also in criminal ones. She is also a Partner in the law firm CORDERO CEA & CORDERO ÁLVAREZ -ABOGADOS (2002-2008). Her interests are in conflict of laws, jurisdiction and enforcement in family and patrimonial matters, incidence of human rights in cross-border litigation as well as in international trade law, international business law and commercial arbitration. In these fields, she has published and participated in several books and in several articles in Spanish.
